“The Three Legged Horse”: Paul Drockton, was one of my first compositions and music videos. Also, it has a massive following on some of the streaming services like Sound Cloud.
My inspiration for the lyrics came from experience as a missionary in Uruguay, South America. Surprisingly, it was common to see horses freely wandering the roads in some areas.
One Horse in particular stood out. Sadly, the poor thing had only three legs. Also, he was being pursued by a pack of very hungry dogs. All Waiting for him to take his last step… (More after Music video of the Three Legged Horse below)
Why a Song About the Three Legged Horse?
As I saw the pure terror in that cursed horse’s eyes, I thought of our own human condition. None of us is perfect. We are all carrying burdens. Some of them are seen. And some are invisible. As the song points out, we are all flawed in one way or another.
And of course, we are all trying to stay one step ahead of the wolves nipping at our heals. Also, they force us to continue the struggles. Seemingly, we are all worn out, weary and exhausted. Simular to the Three Legged Horse.
We Can’t Make it on Our Own
Surprisingly,I realized we were not meant to survive the journey alone. Besides, without God’s Grace we are at the mercy of the wolves. Not surprisingly, He is the only One that can give us the strength to go on! And, He alone can heal us and make us whole!
So, remember this song the next time you feel anger, hatred, bitterness or jealousy. And that, we are all just Three Legged Horses. Also flawed in one way or another. Besides fleeing the hungry wolves at the door.
Every one of us needs the Master to guide us, lead us, heal us, and protect us. Of course, He can only show us the same mercy that we show unto others. And, we all need humility, compassion, and a generous spirit. Also, all of us need a broken heart and a contrite Spirit. Lastly, we all need to get the beams out of our own eyes first. Lets get right with our Creator.
Finally, God can only do for us what we do for others. I give Him full credit for this song, music, video and article. I am a broken down, old, three legged Horse. And Without Him, I am just another can of dog food.
